How to Prepare Yourself for the Job Interview

1. Assure Yourself

Assure yourself that it is the right job for you. People today are crazy about job opportunities, career development, and easy money. You must be sure that it is the job right for you: corresponding to your skills, satisfying your financial needs and your striving for social recognition. Be it a manager, teacher, PHP engineer, etc., all these positions are described according to the skills and competences needed for good performance at work. If you read more than what the title says, you will find all the information that you need. A manager should possess excellent organizational and leadership skills; a teacher should communicate will with children; a PHP engineer should be professional in the field of hi-tech; and so on. Take your time to think: what do you know about yourself? What are your skills and needs? What are you going to achieve if the employer approves your application?

Provide Precise Information

Provide precise information in your CV and Cover Letter. The CV should be different for various fields of the labor market. According to college experts, university job requires a list of publications, grants, scientific achievements; a manufactory requires information about the past experience in the same field from the applicant. Prepare your CV accordingly. Do not write too much: be short and concise. No one would read a CV written in the form of a novel. If you aren’t sure, you could ask some friend to show you his/her CV, but remember: never copy all the content of someone else’s CV! Your CV is personal and unique. It’s better to write it yourself than to borrow words and phrases that don’t describe properly your skills and/or achievements. The same rule applies for the cover letter. Write it yourself, while trying to convince the employer that you should be selected for the position. Try to include some basic information such as the following: how come you know about this position, what is your previous experience, what is your motivation to apply. Be positive and polite: respect the right of the employer to choose the person with the best qualifications

Play a Role Game

Play a role game with yourself. Try to guess what the employer (or, most probably, someone from Human Resources department) will ask you during the interview and in which order. You could play the game with your friends, or with yourself (as a mind game), it’s not so important. Some people prefer to remember anything possible in order to answer the employer’s questions properly. Other people rely on their own spontaneity and ability to adapt to difficult situations. It is a matter of style: choose the one that suits you.

Balance

Balance should be maintained between two extremes called high self-confidence and low self-esteem. Everyone in the world knows that it is the right job for you, and you will contribute to the company’s or organization’s activities as much as you can. Notwithstanding, there are also other people who could perform very well with the same company/organization. Let’s repeat it again, give the employer (or the HR officer) the chance to select the best applicant. Find the best option between both extremes: convince yourself that you are good enough to get the job, but, at the same time, not everything depends on you. Just try your chance. Take it as an adventure. You will win in any case: from one hand, because you will gain more experience, and from the other, because you may be selected. Be confident at the job interview and have positive feelings. It will be your interview; your experience and your opportunity.

Four steps are never enough to prepare you for the interview if you follow them automatically. Try to do it in your own style. Demonstrate your personality and maturity to your future employer, and, whatever happens, he/she will respect it.
