We are seeking to appoint a postdoctoral researcher in statistical genetics to identify novel biological pathways which causally influence bone-related phenotypes in children and young adults. The successful applicant will be responsible for conducting genome-wide association studies involving single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), copy number variants (CNVs), and rare genetic variation from genome-wide sequencing data. Initial analyses will involve the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children, a densely phenotyped longitudinal birth cohort of ~10,000 mothers and children for whom genome-wide SNP, CNV and sequencing data are available. The post-holder will subsequently need to liaise with our many collaborators in order to meta-analyse and replicate significant associations.
The successful applicant will have a strong background in statistical genetics and/or genetic epidemiology, and will be qualified to the PhD level (or equivalent) in this field. Strong computing skills, experience in the handling of large-scale sensitive data sets especially involving sequencing data, and an ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment would be an advantage.
The post will be based within the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit at the University of Bristol (IEU) located within the School of Social and Community Medicine.
The University of Bristol is committed to equality and we value the diversity of our staff and students.
