Seeking business facing experts in technology / management / design
Lancaster University is embarking on a new initiative to leverage its global reach for the benefit of UK businesses.
We are seeking to build an international team, with hubs in both the UK and China and are now seeing to recruit five individuals to undertake the following primarily UK-based roles:

This £5.1 million 4-year initiative will engage several hundred technology- focused small and medium sized enterprises in the UK and facilitate 80 of these to develop collaborative research and development for new product development through robust partnerships with businesses located in the Guangdong Province. UK businesses selected to participate will embark on a leadership programme to build innovation, creativity and leadership capabilities within the company, geared to the challenges and opportunities of international collaboration and trade. This will be enabled by the resourcing of graduate-caliber teams with science, technology, management and design expertise, to work with UK and Chinese partners on specific collaborative projects in both the UK and China.
The UK Team
This is a very challenging, exciting and high-profile new initiative. Collectively the team we employ will have a broad experience, ranging from user-centered design approaches to the development of collaborative research and leadership and management within an SME context. In addition, excellent client and project management skills are required. We have described the tasks we expect the team to be capable of in each job descriptions but we expect and hope for a great deal of overlap between these from the individuals we employ. This team, reporting to a Programme Director, will work closely with academics, knowledge exchange professionals and students within Lancaster University and with China Catalyst staff recruited in China. All posts will be based at Lancaster University but will involve significant travel in the UK and China.
Programme Director
This new role will provide overall strategic and operational leadership for the Lancaster China Catalyst Programme which aims to revitalise the UK’s position in the global export markets, create 240 jobs, help 400 UK businesses and boost the economy by £40m. The Programme Director will be responsible for establishing the China team and developing relationships with businesses and partners in China. They will lead the UK team to fully develop the programme of activities and build relationships across Lancaster University staff and students and UK-based SMEs. The role holder will strategically lead the programme’s development, successful delivery and sustainability in the future.
