Position Description:
The German University in Cairo is looking for highly able and motivated applicants wishing to join the Design Theory Department as a Lecturer. Successful candidates will be expected to contribute to undergraduate teaching. His/her scope of work will be but not limited to: communication theory, visual theory, cultural/social theory and professional practice theory as related to design and design research.

The Design Theory Department offers essential foundation knowledge alongside the three offered majors in Product Design, Media Design and Graphic Design. The courses and content offered are strongly linked to the three majors.

The ideal applicant should demonstrate a well-developed understanding of how the role of the designer is, and needs to, adapt and change in response to emergent social, environmental, economic and technological challenges.

Applicants are requested to present their currently performed research activity and future research interest which preferably is related to the described fields of experience or any of the three design majors.

Qualifications: 

Applicants should hold an internationally recognized master degree or German diploma in a related area.Minimum 5 years' of practical experience and 3 years' of teaching experience.Updated knowledge of current and future issues within the field of design education-excellence in research, scholarship, design or creative practice.Understanding of the implications of design practice in relationship to broader social, cultural, economic, scientific and technological forces.Ability to develop and nurture students' design abilities according to project-specific and contextual requirements.Strong commitment to progressive design education principles regarding self- organized and responsible design study.Strong competences to structure and define project goals in order to foster and motivate positive experiences.Curiosity to widen perception within the design disciplines and thus create a foundation for design oriented actions and mindsets.Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills.Good management skills, including the ability to meet deadlines, communicate and motivate effectively.An interest in working collaboratively within the GUC and with external partners towards the development of shared projects and initiatives.Lecturers will undertake administrative responsibilities and actively participate within the development and organization of the Design Theory Department within the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Arts.
