Finance Manager

About the School
The School of Biological & Chemical Sciences (SBCS) was established in August 2005 as a result of the merger between the School of Biological Sciences and the Department of Chemistry. The merger created one of the largest Schools within the College.

The School is looking to appoint a Finance Manager to:

Manage the department’s consumables budget for teaching and research (ca. £1.5 million p.a.) and assist with the monitoring and spend of departmental research grant expenditure (over £4 million p.a.).Develop and manage School finances in line with College policies/proceduresLine manage members of the SBCS Finance team

About the Post
The post-holder will be responsible for maintaining and developing internal systems to manage budgetary information, deal with finance issues in a professional manner using judgement and discretion, regularly review and monitor the effectiveness of the School’s financial structures and working practices and design/deliver a variety of approaches to maximise service quality, efficiency and continuity.

Responsibilities
Applicants should have a relevant degree or equivalent and/or substantial professional development in finance management or have an Accounting qualification or substantial accounting experience. Applicants should also have experience of managing a team in a finance office, experience of working with senior management setting budgets as well as good knowledge of computer finance systems and significant experience within a similar role in a university or the public sector. Applicants will also be expected to have the ability to liaise successfully with all levels of staff.

Remuneration & Benefits
This is a full-time, permanent post. The salary scale will be in the range of £33,944 - £39,936 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Salary will be according to qualifications, skills and experience. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Additional Information
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
