The Guildhall School of Music & Drama has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic Research Manager to oversee the management and delivery of research and academic activities across the GuildhallSchool.  The GuildhallSchool is one of the world's leading conservatoires and drama schools, offering musicians, actors, stage managers and theatre technicians an inspiring environment in which to develop as artists and professionals.  A global leader of creative and professional practice, promoting innovation, experiment and research, the School works in close partnership with the Barbican Centre and London Symphony Orchestra, creating the world’s leading centre for performance, training and education in the arts.

Working with one other part-time Research Manager, the successful candidate will make an important contribution to the success of a world-class teaching and research establishment through the delivery of the aims and objectives of the Research & Knowledge Exchange department.

Using your proven experience, preferably gained within a Higher Education establishment, and your demonstrable understanding of the structure of Research in the UK, you will develop, monitor and promote the School’s research portfolio through the provision of project management and support across a range of projects which contribute to the strategic development of the Research & Knowledge Exchange department. You will engage with academic staff across music and drama (including Professors, Heads of department and Directors) to pursue opportunities and promote internal engagement with research, provide expert advice and guidance in the preparation of major research bids and manage the external communications for the department.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated and will have a demonstrable knowledge of the performing arts.  It is essential you have proven experience of project management and engaging with performing artists, experience of managing budgets and writing complex management reports, copy and proposals with confidence. Experience of providing expert support to research applications is also desirable. You should also have proven and effective negotiation and planning skills in order to deliver a multitude of projects in a timely and effective manner.  It is essential that you also have strong IT skills, and some experience of staff management would be desirable.
