Research and PhD Officer

About the School

The School of Physics and Astronomy is seeking to appoint a dynamic individual to the post of Research and PhD Officer. The School’s PhD programme has expanded rapidly in recent years and will rise to approximately 100 students by 2013. The postholder will be expected to develop and maintain efficient administrative processes for PhD students and their supervision.

About the Post

The postholder will also provide administrative support for research within the School, including: administration of research grants, support for the Research Excellence Framework and developments with other research initiatives such as the development Sino-British Research Institute. Finally the post-holder will also provide bespoke support for the new Materials Research Institute in a variety of administrative duties.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have a track record of excellence in administration, preferably gained within a higher education institution or related body (such as the research councils). The successful candidate will be educated to degree level and will have excellent organisational and communication skills.

Remuneration & Benefits

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for three years. Starting salary will be in the range £30,500- £35,824 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Additional Information

Candidates must be able to demonstratetheir eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration,Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entryclearance or continued leave to remain under the Points BasedImmigration Scheme.
