This role is part of the new Cambridge Advanced Imaging Centre (CAIC) which supports the development and use of advanced imaging techniques including light sheet, multi-photon and super-resolution microscopy. The role holder will be responsible for assisting with microscope development and working with end users. These responsibilities cover a wide scope including:
Testing new techniques on prototype microscopes; assisting microscope development, both hardware and control software; working with end users to develop custom sample holders and preparation protocols; working with our software engineer to create image processing work flows; assisting and training users in microscope and software use.
The role holder will be encouraged to initiate and explore novel imaging solutions, where they will lead to new or improved research applications whilst offering a high level of service to the user community.
You will have a very good knowledge of physical optics and experience designing optical experiments. Desirable qualities would be: a proficiency with the LabVIEW programming environment or similar, knowledge of image processing techniques and an understanding of common fluorescence microscopy techniques.
Candidates should normally have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant area or about to complete a PhD. You must be able to display evidence of academic excellence and the ability to work effectively in a small research team.
