Salary scale: £32,750 - £41,540 per annum
We are seeking to recruit a Research Associate to work in Professor A William Rutherford’s research team in the Department of Life Sciences at the South Kensington Campus of Imperial College London (www3.imperial.ac.uk/people/a.rutherford).
The post holder will be working on the structural and mechanistic aspects of photosynthetic electron transfer and will contribute to producing independent and original research within the group. The post holder will aid in the submission of publications to refereed journals and will also help with the teaching and administration of the research group.
Applicants must hold a PhD in biochemistry, microbiology, structural biology, or equivalent qualifications and experience. Applicants with a more chemical or physical background (for example in bioinorganic chemistry) will also be considered. It is essential for the post holder to have a successful track record in academic publications, the capacity for innovative high quality research on photosynthesis and strong interest in electron transfer, proton transfer and molecular enzymology. Knowledge and experience of photosystem II, spectroscopic methods and metals in biology are desirable. Experience of cyanobacterial photosystems and research experience in structural and/or mechanistic bioenergetics covering photosynthetic electron transfer is desirable.
You must have creative approach to problem-solving, be able to develop and apply new concepts and have ability to prioritise work in response to deadlines. You must also have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to write clearly and succinctly for publication. A willingness to travel within the United Kingdom and abroad to conduct research, to collect X-ray data from synchrotrons and to attend conferences/workshops and other meetings is essential.
This full-time position is available for 21 months in the first instance.
