Fixed Term Contract (6 months)
You will carry out a research project on development of communicative gestures in Japanese children and on the process of speech-gesture integration in comprehension with Japanese and English speakers, under the supervision of Professor Sotaro Kita. You will also disseminate the results, contribute to the coordination of the research activities in the Language and Learning Group in the Department of Psychology. You may also assist Professor Kita's teaching activities.
You will have a PhD or equivalent in Psychology (or relevant discipline), excellent research profile, including substantial publications in international peer-reviewed psychology journals as the lead author and success in obtaining external funding (grants or fellowships), native-speaker level competence in Japanese, expertise in testing children in nurseries in Japan, expertise in analysing Japanese children's gesture behaviours, expertise in experimental studies on comprehension of speech and gesture with Japanese and English speaking child and adult participants. Proposed start date will be 1 April 2014.
