Ref: A729R
Salary: £31,331 - £36,298
Closing date: 5 December 2013
We are seeking to appoint a senior research associate to work on the European Future Internet PPP project FI-CONTENT2. Within this project, Lancaster University & BBC R&D will be designing, implementing and deploying a series of Social Connected TV services onto our IP-enabled TV platform. More specifically, these services will investigate the strategy and methodology to track usage statistics and explore how such statistics can be visualised for each user and exploited for personalised content services (e.g. tailored content recommendation). These social/interactive TV applications will be implemented by Lancaster University and deployed onto our existing IPTV platform within the student campus and our wider Living Lab infrastructure.
Within FI-CONTENT2 we will be working closely with the BBC to conduct experiments to track user interaction with live and on-demand streams. The experiments will analyse how patterns of user behaviour and related social graphs can be exploited to form personalised interactive services. User interviews, focus groups, cultural probes and questionnaires will also be integrated to investigate the overall user experience of the content service as enhanced by the personalisation features and user issues related to privacy, identity and trust.
We invite applications from enthusiastic individuals who have a PhD or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related discipline. You must be familiar with the design and execution of user-focused experiments or have experience in conducting a detailed analysis of large-scale experimental data. The role will require you to engage with external stakeholders and therefore you should possess excellent communication skills with evidence of working effectively within a team.
The School of Computing and Communications offers a highly collegiate and stimulating environment for research career development. You will join an ambitious research group that is internationally recognised, and will be expected to contribute to the strong profile of the group through participation in the development and publication of research results.
This Senior Research Associate position is effective from Jan 2014 until March 2015. Informal enquiries to Dr Nicholas Race, email: n.race@lancaster.ac.uk or telephone +44 1524 510123.
