Sessional tutors in Statistics

Contracts are on a fixed-term basis until 12th April 2014 to teach university preparation programmes at Foundation, International Year One and Pre-Master levels.

Hourly pay rates range between £28.50 - £35.60, depending on the level being taught. The sessional working hours available vary by subject.

Bournemouth University International College
The college is operated in partnership with Bournemouth University, located on the University’s Lansdowne Campus and offers programmes designed to prepare international students for entry to Bournemouth University. The first students were admitted to the college in September 2013.

The role
The purpose of the role is to deliver highly effective teaching in relevant subjects to international students on the Foundation, International Year One or Pre Masters programmes, in conjunction with our current subject requirements.

Main responsibilities and functions
Reporting to the Programme Leader, you will be responsible for:

Delivering subject modules to students studying on the courseAssisting with examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessment, delivery, marking and provision of feedback to studentsProviding input for related subjects to the review and reporting processMaintaining an accurate and up-to-date record of student attendance and performanceAttending and participating regular internal meetings with teaching and support staffAs and when required, providing tutorial support to individuals/small groupsAny other duties as required from time to time by the Course Manager.

Candidate profile
As the successful candidate, you will enjoy working with international students, be customer-orientated and performance-driven. In addition you will have:

A formal teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE) and relevant experience teaching at secondary, further education or undergraduate higher education levelA Bachelor’s degree with strong subject knowledge in the relevant (or related) subject areaRelevant English Language teaching qualification and/or level of experience i.e. CELTA, DELTA (desired)Ability to develop and update teaching material, preferably with experience of working within a Virtual Learning EnvironmentStrong interest in, or experience with, working and supporting the needs of international studentsCompetent in administrative IT skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.)A student-centred and client-focused approachStrong record-keeping skillsExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsFlexibility and willingness to work under pressure to deadlinesEnthusiasm and motivation to be a performance-driven team player.
