Job Summary: An associate with a background in finance, economics, and/or business management is sought to help design, develop, and implement a feasibility study and business plan for the creation of a new financial intermediary, to be owned and governed by Scotland’s farming community, and subsequent financial consultancy services for the UK agricultural/food sector. The project is a partnership between the Scottish Agricultural Organisation Society Limited (SAOS) and The University of Aberdeen.
Whilst the job holder will be employed and supported by the University of Aberdeen, the location for the work will be the office of the Scottish Agricultural Organisation Society Ltd at the Rural Centre, Ingliston, Newbridge (near Edinburgh International Airport).
The associate is expected to have:
• experience of scoping, developing, and implementing business development projects;
• experience of marketing ideally in relation to financial products and services;
• high calibre communication skills for relationship building and liaison with different end-users/stakeholders;
• an understanding of the values and principles of the international co-operative movement; and
• experience of working with a diverse range of customers to identify product benefits.
There will be the opportunity, if required, for the associate to register for a higher degree and to use the work conducted during the project towards completion of this degree. In addition, the applicant will be required to complete a management-training programme as part of the KTP process. The Associate will also have access to a £5,000 personal development budget that is to be used exclusively for their personal development.
A likely Professional Qualification that could be worked towards would be Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Banker, or the Foundation Standard for Professional Bankers (introduced in 2012 by the Chartered Banker Professional Standards Board)
You will have graduated within the last 5 years ideally in a finance, economics, or business management discipline with a Masters degree or better. You will have knowledge in the financial and agricultural sectors with interests in innovation, democratic ownership, and democratic governance.
Salary will be from £20,000 to £25,000 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. There will also be a tax-free £5,000 personal development budget and you will have the opportunity to undertake further study. As this post is funded by the Scottish Agricultural Organisation Society Ltd. it will be offered for 30 Months from the start date. It is anticipated that the interview will take place on 5 December 2013 at the University of Aberdeen.
This post is not on the current "shortage occupation" list and does not meet the minimum qualification requirements as issued by the Border and Immigration Agency therefore it will not qualify for a work permit. Unfortunately we are unable to consider applications from candidates for this post who require a work permit to work in the UK.
