The company
Part of Kaplan Inc., Kaplan International Colleges offers university preparation in partnership with leading universities in Nottingham, Sheffield, Liverpool, Glasgow, Brighton, Bournemouth, Bristol and London, allowing international students to progress onto a wide range of degree programmes at these partner institutions. In addition to first-rate teaching and excellent study facilities, KIC programmes offer a high level of personal support as well as access to the facilities and resources of our university partners. KIC is also operating a partnership academy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) preparing students for entry to higher education programmes in the UAE.
Sheffield International College
The college is operated in partnership with the University of Sheffield, located on the University’s North Campus and offers programmes designed to prepare international students for entry to the University of Sheffield. The first students were admitted to the College in September 2006.
The role
The purpose of the role is to deliver highly effective modules in Maths and Physics or Engineering modules.
Delivering modules in Maths, Physics and Engineering to international students on programmes offered by the college and assisting with the development of modulesProviding academic leadership, management and coordination for a designated number of modules in the role of “Module Co-ordinator”Preparing module examinations and other forms of assessment, marking and providing feedbackDeveloping, reviewing and updating course material for related modules, including module material on the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)Providing input for related modules to the annual review and reporting processMaintaining an accurate record of attendance and performanceProviding academic learning support to studentsRepresenting the college at appropriate events and meetings, both internally and externallyAny other duties as required from time to time by the College Director and the Programme Leader.Candidate profile
You will enjoy working with international students, be customer orientated, performance driven. In addition you will have:
A first degree in a relevant subject area of Maths, Physics or Engineering or a BEd specialising in one of these areas. Candidates with further qualifications in the subject area will be welcomeExperience of teaching Maths, Physics or Engineering or related subject areas in UK higher education / FE and preferably a teaching qualification and experience of working with international studentsExperience in teaching or demonstrating laboratory classes in Physical Science or Engineering (desired)A teaching qualification such as a PGCE or PGCHE (desired)Ability to develop and update teaching material and preferably experience of working within a VLE (desired)Competence in teaching and administrative IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail, etc.)Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)Flexibility and willingness to work under pressure to deadlinesEnthusiasm and motivation to be a performance-driven team player and leaderPlease refer to the full job advert for further details - http://www.kic.org.uk/pathways/jobs
