The School of Medical Science at Griffith University's Gold Coast Campus offers five very distinctive undergraduate degrees covering the practice of medicine, biomedical sciences, medical laboratory science, allied health, specialist postgraduate studies, and research opportunities in the challenging and exciting fields of biomedicine and biotechnology. Griffith's modern and vibrant Gold Coast campus provides an attractive and relaxed setting for stimulating study and research. The training environment on the Gold Coast will be second to none on the completion of the Health and Knowledge Precinct.
This is a fixed term (3 years), full time position based at the Gold Coast campus.
The role:
This position is the result of successful ARC and NHMRC research grants and will investigate the molecular mechanisms of virulence in Streptococcus agalactiae and how these contribute to pathogenesis and survival in the host environment. We are looking for a hard working molecular bacteriologist who has excellent skills and holds a PhD in microbiology, and/or molecular biology, can work independently, has experience with bacterial genetics and is highly organized and capable of co-supervising research students. The position is for 3 years in the first instance.
The person:
The ideal person will have a PhD in molecular microbiology, or related field with several years experience in microbial pathogenesis and the genetic manipulation of Gram-positive bacteria. He/she will have a proven research track record as demonstrated through publications and presentations at scientific meetings. Good interpersonal and communication skills including an ability to present research, contribute to the work of others, and apply/develop technical skills in a collegiate working environment is a must. Computer literacy and experience with current PC2 GMO compliance guidelines would be an advantage.
Salary range:
Research Fellow, Grade 2.1: $80,964 per annum. Salary package including 17% employer superannuation contribution: $94,729 per annum.
Research Fellow, Grade 1: $63,153 - $74,287 per annum. Salary package including 17% employer superannuation contribution: $73,889 - $86,917 per annum.
