Applications are invited for two, highly-motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientists to join the Aricescu group, within the Division of Structural Biology (STRUBI).
The research within the group focuses on understanding in molecular terms the mechanisms responsible for acquisition and storage of information in the brain, i.e. learning and memory. You will have scope within the group to tailor specific projects to your particular interests and test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources. You will also act as a source of information to be able to advise other members of the group on scientific protocols and experimental techniques. You will be responsible for managing the day-to-day running of a research project and will contribute in assisting junior researchers in their work.
You will have a PhD in structural biology, biochemistry or related field and research experience either in production of recombinant proteins for structural and functional studies using mammalian expression systems, or protein crystallisation and X-ray crystallography, preferably focused on glycoproteins or membrane proteins. You will also have extensive experience with multiple biophysical and cell-based assays, to validate structural information and your PhD research published in leading refereed international journals.
It is essential you are able to work both as part of a team and independently, with the ability to deliver results to the required standard and schedule. You will have excellent communication skills, both written and oral and be highly organised, and able, to prioritise your own work with minimal supervision.
The position’s are funded by the Medical Research Council and are fixed-term for 2 years in the first instance.
