Professor/Associate Professor of Psychology & Deputy Head of School (Research) & Director, Behavioural Basis of Health
Griffith's School of Applied Psychology is recognised as one of the leading departments of psychology in Australia. We have teaching initiatives in the School that have been benchmarked as national best practice, and many of our staff have received national awards for excellence in teaching. The focus of the School is on innovative applications of psychology which we promote through an emphasis on work-integrated learning and skills development taught by a comparatively high proportion of professional psychologists.
This is a five year fixed term position as Professor / Associate Professor, and a three year term as Deputy Head and Director BB, with the possibility of renewal for a further two years by mutual agreement. An underlying continuing Professorial / Associate Professorial position may be negotiated.
The role:
The appointee will provide academic and operational leadership through fostering excellence in research and teaching within the Applied Psychology discipline. The appointee will develop the discipline by building an international reputation in research; achieving excellence in learning and teaching and curriculum development; and leading professional engagement with industry and the wider community.
The role of Deputy Head of School (Research) is primarily to provide leadership and management of the School's research and higher degree portfolio in collaboration with the Head of School and Directors of partner Research Centres. The goal of the BBH program is to apply psychological knowledge and methods to understand human behaviour and promote health and emotional and psychological well-being of children, adults and families. Achievement of this goal is supported by both basic and applied research projects which focus on particular target populations and may be universal (aimed at a general population level) or more targeted (specific high risk groups).
