We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join an EU funded project from 1st February 2014 to develop new heterogeneous catalysts for pyrolysis oil upgrading. The research programme combines inorganic synthesis, surface science and reaction engineering, to obtain mechanistic insight into catalyst operation in-situ, and synthesis of novel nanoporous and nanocrystalline metal and metal oxide architectures for the energy efficient conversion of oxygenates to hydrocarbons.
You will work as part of an enthusiastic team at the Chemistry-Chemical Engineering interface within the new Catalysis and Surface Chemistry Research Group at EBRI, and travel within the UK and overseas to collaborate with international academic and industrial research teams on the design of new catalysts.
You will have a minimum 2:1 degree in chemistry or chemical engineering, and/or a PhD in heterogeneous catalysis or materials science. Practical experience in the synthesis, characterisation and testing of nanocrystalline and/or nanoporous inorganic solids is essential. Expertise in the use of diverse bulk and surface analytical techniques, including TEM, powder XRD and XPS, and in the use of gas or liquid phase reactors for heterogeneous catalysis, is also essential. Previous experience of biomass chemistry, in addition to knowledge of DRIFTS and synchrotron radiation, is highly desirable.
Informal enquiries can be made in the first instance to Professor Karen Wilson, (k.wilson@aston.ac.uk, 0121 204 5456) or Professor Adam Lee (A.F.Lee@warwick.ac.uk)
