Salary range: £32,750- £41,540 per annum
Fixed Term for: 18 months, commencing January 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter
Applications are invited for the position of Research Associate in the Department of Mathematics at Imperial College London. The position is funded by the Mathematics Department to develop and make use of new tools for examining thermo-acoustic instabilities in combustion devices. The specific goals of this position are to use recent advances in direct-adjoint methods, delay-differential equations and flow control techniques to analyse the linear and nonlinear flow behaviour of reactive flows and to design flow control strategies.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in Fluid Dynamics, or an equivalent level of professional qualification and experience in a closely related discipline. A demonstrated strong track record of original research, together with expertise in computational fluid dynamics and numerical simulations of the Navier-Stokes equations is essential. Candidates are also expected to demonstrate some familiarity with hydrodynamic stability theory and variational techniques as well as programming experience in FORTRAN and Matlab and familiarity with MPI.
