The History Faculty is seeking to recruit four Research Associates for a major European Research Council-funded project, 'The Jagiellonians: Dynasty, Memory and Identity in Central Europe'. Successful candidates will work as part of a team led by the Principal Investigator, Dr Natalia Nowakowska. The team will be based in Oxford, with periods of travel to Central Europe. The researchers will conduct comparative, ambitious research on the Jagiellonian dynasty and its legacies, producing both single-authored and collaborative publications. Each Research Associate will be responsible for leading research on one of the following areas:

Kingdom of HungaryKingdom of BohemiaGrand Duchy of LithuaniaJagiellonians and the German-speaking lands

The appointments are for 2 years, commencing 1 July 2014 (or 1 June 2014 for candidates requiring language training). The successful candidates will have completed (and submitted by 1 February 2014) a doctoral thesis in medieval or early modern history. They should have a capacity for excellent independent research, and also for working as part of a team, engaging in innovative forms of collaborative working in the Humanities. Applications are invited both from candidates fluent in Hungarian, Czech, Slovak, Lithuanian or German (as appropriate to the preferred research area), and from candidates willing to learn a new language intensively, and who can demonstrate the aptitude to do so. Research Associates will have the opportunity to become Early Career Research Fellows at The Oxford Research Centre for the Humanities (TORCH).
