Carrying out quantitative research and policy analysis on the economic performance of UK cities.

The Centre for Cities is a charity that aims to improve the economic performance of UK Cities. It fulfils its aims through high quality, impartial research, convening discussions with key partners in local, national government and industry, inputting into national and local policy and presenting the case for cities in national and local media.
This is an opportunity to play a key role in one of the UK’s leading organisations dedicated to cities and urban policy. We are looking for a researcher who has got the applied quantitative skills and an aptitude to deliver high quality research projects and related outputs.

Job description
Undertake quantitative and qualitative economic and policy research on cities in the UK according to the Centre’s research priorities. Conduct literature reviews, policy reviews and other background research as required by the team.Provide administrative and research support as required, including arranging meetings, site visits and events.Input into preparation of events, meetings and presentations with potential partners and monitoring relationships and opportunities.Support colleagues in maintaining a network of contacts in government, business, policy, practitioner and academic organisations.Fulfil any other roles and tasks as required in order to meet the business plan / work programme and requirements of the CentreEssential
Good general knowledge of UK urban economies and the related policy environment.Applied experience of using statistical packages, e.g. SPSS, STATA, Arcview to undertake quantitative analysis.Experience in using Excel to construct, manage and manipulate large data sets.Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to understand a large body of literature, draw out the key issues and apply them to the Centre’s research programme.Ability to work well in a team.Excellent written and spoken English.Good first degree in economics or related subject that provides the experience and skills to carry out thorough quantitative research and policy thinking on urban economic policy.Subscribe to Current Government Vacancy by Email
