Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) is an exciting, ambitious, and dynamic full service City law firm. We were named 'Law Firm of the Year' at both the British Legal Awards and The Lawyer Awards in 2010 because, in addition to our excellence in the law, we deliver fresh-thinking solutions that are grounded in our clients' commercial objectives. We have particular strengths in real estate, corporate, finance, tax and a strong litigation and dispute resolution capability. We have around 730 lawyers including over 200 partners. Based in London, we have our own English law offices in Abu Dhabi, Paris, Brussels, Hong Kong, Berlin, Frankfurt, Dubai, Singapore and a Russian international law office in Moscow (Goltsblat BLP). BLP was also the fastest growing UK top 30 law firm last year, and was named the fifth most innovative law firm in Europe in the Financial Times (FT) Innovative Lawyers Awards 2011.
BLP delivers first-rate, pragmatic legal advice that helps a wide portfolio of clients - including major corporate organisations, financial institutions, government bodies and public sector organisations, and private clients - achieve their goals. Clients are serviced by lawyers specialising in over 60 areas of legal expertise and a wide variety of key sectors. These include: commercial contracts; corporate finance; defence and aerospace; dispute resolution; energy and natural resources; EU & competition; finance; healthcare and education; hotels, leisure and gaming; human resources; insurance; intellectual property; outsourcing; public sector; real estate; retail; regulatory and compliance; restructuring & insolvency; tax; technology, media and telecoms; and transport and infrastructure.
Key duties to being a trainee
Being a trainee solicitor at BLP involves:
Trainees benefit from genuine responsibility from the outset of their careers and exposure to high-quality work; BLP's client base includes more than 50 FTSE 350 companies and eight of the world's top 10 banks.
When recruiting trainees, our focus is on quality rather than quantity. Trainees spend six months in four seats and progress is reviewed every three months. The majority of trainees will gain experience within the real estate, and corporate finance departments and undertake a contentious seat during their training contract. Client secondments are a popular choice, and there is the opportunity to undertake an international seat in either our Brussels, Moscow, Singapore or Abu Dhabi office if this is of interest.
Our people are prized for their legal talent and renowned for being personally committed to helping clients succeed. It's a distinct BLP quality.
